A foot soldier is defined as “one who performs necessary but basic, often mundane tasks.”  At face value these ring true, people like JoAnn Robinson made copies and delivered them to the hubs of the Civil Rights Movement, the Church. However, upon a closer look, it includes those who marched from Selma to Montgomery, those who pushed the movement beyond its expectations. Each person involved in this movement can be seen as a follower; but also a type of servant leader, one who “puts the needs of others first.”  Dr. King and the other leaders like Reverend Abernathy could not have accomplished the success of the movement without their foot soldiers, peacefully walking toward equality for the future.
